Gujjar body files petition against two JK Universities

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, July 15: A  write petition was filed  against two Universities of Jammu and Kashmir  in National  Commission for Schedule Tribes and University Grant Commission simultaneously  for not  implementing  reservation in  recruitments  and promotions for Schedule Tribes  at various level .
The petition was filed by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation -a frontal organisation of Gujjar and Bakerwals representing  Schedule Tribe communities of Jammu and Kashmir, against Kashmir University (KU) and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) as both the Universities have failed to implement  reservation laws for STs  in recruitments  thereby committing  violation of constitutional  obligations and denied safeguards available to Tribal communities of the State .
Confirming this,  Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary of Tribal Foundation has stated that on behalf of the Foundation our Legal Adviser  has filed a case against both the Universities   Kashmir  in National  Commission for Schedule Tribes and University Grants Commission and prayed  for justice.
The petition maintains that as per laws of the J&K State, the Gujjars and Bakerwals ST communities are entitled for 10% reservation in recruitment and promotions, in all the Government and autonomous bodies of the State but Kashmir University and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) have violated constitution and UGC guidelines as both are not providing even 1% recruitment to tribes.
