Gujjar leaders submit memorandum to Union Minister, highlight demands

JAMMU, Aug 12: Ex MLAChaudhary Gulzar Ahmed and Anam Hafiz Chaudhary, Member State Advisory Board for J&K called on Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Kishore Chandra Dev in Union Capital and submitted a memorandum to him highlighting the demands of the Gujjar community in the State.
As per a release, the memorandum alleged that the Government of India and Ministry of Tribals has sanctioned many schemes and funds for J&K under SCA and Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) but State Government is not showing any interest in this regard to utilize this amount for the welfare of the community.
The delegation demanded that TSP funds be given through Tribal Advisory Board, J&K or Director Tribal J&K who are working under the Social Welfare Ministry of the State. They said the Social Welfare Ministry is delaying the transfer of funds and divert them  to other areas which have no tribal population.
Mr Hafiz Chaudhary demanded that TSP be transferred in mid financial year through the Tribal Advisory Board and the same be utilized properly for the welfare of the community. He stressed on setting up of Tribal University in J&K especially in Rajouri or Poonch districts where 45 percent population of Tribals resides.
He also demanded Tribal Research Center be established either at Rajouri or Poonch, establishment of Gujjar Regiment in Army and launching of special recruitment drive for Gujjars is Army and para military forces.
He demanded increase in the amount of scholarships for the tribal students and setting up of PG Hostel in every district of J&K state for tribal students.
The Minister assured the delegation that the demands will be looked into.
