Gujjar researchers meet expert panel on Paharis

JAMMU, Mar 2: A team of Gujjar researchers, led by Dr Javaid Rahi, secretary Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, today met Chairman of Independent Expert Committee, constituted by the State Government on the direction of Union Ministry for Home Affairs for conducting socio-economic survey of the Pahari Speaking People in Jammu and Kashmir.
The team was invited by the four-member panel, headed by Prof Peerzada Mohd Amin, Head of the Social Work Department in Kashmir University, to present the Gujjars –Bakerwals prospective over the issue of granting Schedule Tribe status to Pahari Speaking People of J&K.
The Researcher team also presented a detailed research done by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation titled “Comparative Socio-Cultural and Economic Study of Gujjar- Bakerwal Tribe and Pahari Speaking People of Poonch Rajouri district and Uri, Karnah tehsils.
