Gul, Sagar among 44 file papers

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Nov 24: Nine candidates today filed their nomination papers for two Assembly constituencies of Samba and Vijaypur in Samba district, which will go to polls in fourth phase on December 14 while 35 candidates joined the fray in Kashmir valley for the same phase.
November 26 is last date for filing of nomination papers for Phase-IV.
With today’s nine nominations, total number of candidates for Samba district, who have joined electoral fray so far, has gone up to 14.
First six nomination papers were filed today for Samba (Reserve) Assembly segment. The candidates included sitting MLA from Samba and former Minister Yash Paul Kundal (National Panthers Party), Som Nath Manyal (BSP), Subash Bhagat (Congress), Darshan Kumar (Bahujan Mukti Party), Bodh Raj (covering candidate for NPP) and Naresh Chander (covering candidate for Congress).
Som Nath had won Samba seat for the BSP in 1996. However, Kundal had wrested the seat from him in 2002 and retained it in 2008.
Three candidates, who today filed their papers for Vijaypur constituency included Jagdish Raj Verma (BSP), Bahadur Singh Choudhary (Samajwadi Party) and Rajan Jamwal (All J&K Kissan Mazdoor Party).
Five candidates including Chander Prakash Ganga (BJP), Manjit Singh (Congress) and Harmesh Singh Slathia (PDP) have already filed their nomination papers apart from two Independent candidates from Vijaypur.
Meanwhile, 35 candidates including senior NC leader Ali Mohammad Sagar and Speaker Mubarak Gul filed their nomination papers from 16 constituencies of Srinagar, Shopian and Anantnag districts, going to vote on December 14, taking the number of candidates who filed their nominations from these constituencies so far to 53.
Syed Akhoon of National Conference, Ghulam Nabi Dar, Independent, Adil Mustafa Khan of NPP and Javed Ahmad Tota of KDF filed nomination papers today before the Returning Officer, Shabir-ul-Hassan from Hazratbal constituency today. The constituency is represented by NC MLA Dr Mustafa Kamaal.
Mubarak Gul of NC and Ali Mohammad Wani of PDP filed their nomination papers today before the Returning Officer, Merajudin from Eidgah constituency where Gul is seeking re-election.
Ali Mohammad Sagar of NC who is seeking re-election from Khanyar constituency filed his nomination papers today.
Nasir Aslam Wani of NC and Yunis Qamar Sheikh, Independent, filed their nomination papers today before the Returning Officer, Bilal Khursheed from Amira Kadal constituency. Nasir Wani is seeking re-election here.
Batmaloo where Irfan Shah of NC is seeking re-election, four candidates – Noor Mohammad Sheikh of PDP, Abdul Hamid Rather of Congress, Sajjad Ahmad Reshi, Independent, Javed Ahmad, Independent – filed their nominations today.
From Habba Kadal constituency Shameema Firdous who is seeking re-election filed her nomination papers today before returning officer, Abdul Majid. The others who filed their nomination papers from Habba Kadal are Raman Mattoo of Congress, Sanjay Saraf of LJP, Bilal Para, Independent and Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, Independent.
An Independent candidate, Nasir Kochak filed his nomination papers from Anantnag constituency today before the Returning Officer, Mohammad Yusuf Bhat. Former Chief Minister and PDP candidate, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is seeking re-election from here.
Farooq Ganai of NC and Abdul Ahad Mir of Indian People’s Conference filed their nomination papers today before the Returning Officer, Khursheed Ahmad Sania from Dooru constituency. Ghulam Ahmad Mir of Congress is seeking re-election from here.
Rafi Ahmad Mir of PDP who is seeking re-election from Pahalgam and People’s Conference candidate Anwar Jan of People’s Conference filed their nomination papers today before the Returning Officer, Hashmat Ali Yatoo.
From Bijbehara constituency Abdul Rehman Bhat of PDP who is seeking re-election, three candidates Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri of NC, Mushtaq Ganai of Congress and Mushtaq Sheikh of BJP filed their nomination papers today before the Returning Officer, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat.
Shangus where PDP MLA, Peer Mansoor is seeking re-election, NC candidate Advocate Reyaz Ahmad Khan and Mohammad Shafi Wani, Independent, filed their nomination papers before the Returning Officer, Zahoor Ahmad Raina, today.
Mohammad Yusuf Bhat of PDP and Advocate Shabir Ahmad Kullay filed their nominations from Shopian constituency today before returning officer, Ghulam Qadir Wani. The constituency is represented by PDP MLA Abdul Razak Wagay.
Three candidates Aijaz Ahmad Mir of PDP, Maroof Ahmad Wani of Congress and Mohammad Yaqub Malik of DRP filed their nomination papers from Wacchi constituency today before returning officer, Mohammad Ashraf Katoo. The constituency was represented by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti who became MP early this year.
