Like many more ambitious projects that are announced by our politicians when in power but hardly see the light of the day, is one Wi-Fi project for Gulmarg. It was claimed that when installed at a height of 4000 meters above sea level, wireless connectivity with the entire world could be possible for the easement of foreign tourists. It was also claimed that it could serve warning about impending natural calamities like snow storm etc. But, actually nothing has moved in any direction in regard to the projects under discussion. It is surprising that officials of Gulmarg Development Authority are now posing questions of finances and maintenance of expensive equipment and other related matters. Why these issues were not raised at proper time and why was the announcement necessary without going into its ins and outs. Obviously, it was a political stunt and is bound to meet with failure unless vision and effort are inducted into it.
