SRINAGAR, Mar 1: Upper reaches of Kashmir today recording light snowfall with Gulmarg receiving around 3 inches while rains lashed the Valley. The Weather Department has forecast intermittent snowfall and rain during the next 24 hours in J&K with authorities issuing avalanche warning for the hills.
A Meteorological department official said that mainly dry weather was expected during March 3 to 7.
Parts of Kashmir had light rainfall today while hills had snowfall with Gulmarg receiving around 3 inches of snow.
Meanwhile Srinagar recorded a low of 6.4°C against 4.0°C the previous night and it was above normal by 4.9°C for the city.
Qazigund, recorded a low of 5.0°C against 1.8°C the previous night and it was 4.6°C above normal for the town.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 0.6°C against minus 1.2°C the previous night and it was 4.1°C above normal for the famous tourist.
Kokernag recorded a low of 3.4°C against 3.0°C the previous night and it was 3.3°C above normal for the place.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 2.0°C against minus 3.0°C the previous night and it was 3.3°C above normal for the skiing resort.
In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 4.2°C against 2.8°C the previous night and it was 4.2°C above normal for the town.
Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 5.6°C and 3.6°C respectively.
Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) issued an avalanche warning over higher reaches in two districts of Kashmir division.
The DMA said that a ‘low’ danger level avalanche is likely to occur above 2600 metres above sea level in Kupwara district.
It similarly expressed apprehension of a ‘medium’ danger level avalanche above 2500 metres in Bandipora district.
“People living in these areas have been advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas till further orders,” the statement said.
