Stakeholders happy over swift pace of works

SRINAGAR, May 13: As the world-famous tourist resort Gulmarg gears up to welcome the G20 delegation later this month, extensive construction and facelift works are underway to transform it into a premier destination with the tourism players expressing their satisfaction and delight at the swift progress of the development works.
Ghulam Jeelani Zargar, CEO of the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), shared his excitement in an exclusive conversation with Excelsior, stating that Gulmarg’s selection as the destination for the upcoming G20 delegation visit fills them with pride and anticipation. He referred to it as a historic day for the region.
Known for its hospitality, natural beauty, and cultural diversity, he said J&K sees the delegation’s visit as a golden opportunity to showcase these inherent qualities to the world.
To ensure the event’s success, Zargar revealed that a series of projects have been initiated to revitalize and present Gulmarg at its finest. He emphasized that the utmost priority is to provide the visiting delegates with an unparalleled experience that meets international standards in terms of facilities and comfort.
Zargar disclosed that several crucial projects have already been completed, including civil works and logistical arrangements for the grand presentation scheduled during the visit. However, he said, minor tasks such as macadamization and road development are still in progress and expected to be finalized in the coming days.
Regarding the renowned Gulmarg Gondola, one of the world’s highest and longest ropeways, Zargar highlighted the enhancements made to improve visitors’ experience.
“Upgrades include enhanced lighting, newly adorned mural paintings, and an improved illumination system. Furthermore, a VIP lounge has been established to cater to the needs of distinguished guests.”
Throughout these endeavours, organizers have taken great care to infuse the rich Kashmiri culture into every aspect. Elements such as Devri seating and wooden signage have been incorporated to ensure that each detail represents the essence of the region.
The CEO expressed anticipation that the delegation’s visit will result in a significant increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Gulmarg.
Bilal Ahmad, a local associated with the tourism sector, expressed his enthusiasm for the developmental activities prompted by the G20 visit. He urged tourists to seize this opportunity to explore and appreciate the breathtaking beauty that Gulmarg has to offer.
Tariq Ahmad Lone, a representative of the Pony Association, also expressed satisfaction with the ongoing projects. He expressed hope that the Government would continue to invest in upgrading the tourism infrastructure, facilitating the overall growth and prosperity of the region.
Stakeholders said that they are eagerly anticipating the positive impact this visit will have on the area’s tourism industry. “With meticulous planning and execution, coupled with the natural allure of the region, we see Gulmarg poised to make a lasting impression on the international stage,” they said.
