Inter-Panchayat Block Level Tournaments

JAMMU, May 1: Gulshan Kumar of Hakkal bagged gold in 100 meters sprint race, while Rohit Kumar and Akshay Kumar won silver and bronze medals respectively in the Inter-Panchayat Block Level Tournament of Satwari zone, which commenced at Boys High School ground Satwari Cantt, here today.
The tournament in which about 200 boys drawn from various Panchayats of Satwari Zone are taking part is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under Panchayat Yuva Krida aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA), a centrally sponsored scheme created with an initiative to promote sports in nooks and corners of the country.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by SS Bali, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Jammu in a simple but well attended function. He was accompanied by Tirath Ram, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu, Zafar Altaf, BDO Satwari, Nirmal Raina, Headmistress High School Satwari Cantt and Saroman Dogra, Zonal Physical Education Officer, Satwari.
Meanwhile, in Kabaddi finals, Bhour Camp defeated Parladpur by 4 points (33-29) in a close contest and won the title, while in volleyball summit clash, Lacchampur outplayed Mandal by two sets to one (2-1) to wear the crown.
In kho-kho title clash, Raipur Satwari drubbed Bhour Camp by 14 points, when the final score read 24-10 in favour of the winners, while in Wrestling, Mandal trounced Hakkal to win the title trophy.
The matches were officiated by Mohinder Singh, Chanderkanta, Saleem-ur-Rehman, Hardev Singh, Ganesh, Jatinder Kour, Jasbir Kour and Askok Kumar.
The competitions in girls section shall be held tomorrow at the same venue.
Meanwhile, in the Inter-Panchayat Block Level Tournament of Marh Zone, Gou- Manasan outplayed Gole Gujral by 5 points (24-19) to win the kabaddi title at Government Higher Secondary School Domana.
In kho-kho, Sangrampur trounced Marh in a close contest by one point (6-5) to wear the crown, while in athletics, Zareena Begum of Sangrampur clinched gold in 100 meters sprint and Manisha Devi of Kalyanpur bagged silver.
In 200 meters, Kajal Choudhary of Gole Gujral won gold, while Vishali Lakhotra of Akalpur clinched silver. Zareena Begum of Sangrampur bagged gold in shot-put, while Bharti of Gou Manasan clinched second place in this event. Zareena Begum again shined in discus throw, claiming first place, while Sunita Devi of Gho-Manasan won second place in this event.
In long jump, Pooja Choudhary of Gole Gujral was declared first, while Bharti Devi of Gho-Manasan bagged the second spot.
The matches were officiated by Gulbir Singh, Pavitar Singh, Hardut Sharma, Surinder Singh, Pritam Lal, Tilak Raj, Ravi Kumar, Anita Bhat, Kulbir Singh, Ajeet Singh, Nitin Sethi, Shifali, Harjot Kour and Swati Wadhera.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were DYSSO Jammu Tirath Ram, Principal Higher Secondary School Domana, Govind Ram Sharma, Tarseem Singh and Rachpal Choudhary.
In Block RS Pura, the Inter-Panchayat Tournament in girl section was declared open by Naresh Kumar, Block Development Officer, RS Pura in presence of Kamala Devi, Headmistress High School Kotli Shahdulla.
In kabaddi final, Satowali beat Kotli Mian Fateh by 18 points, while in volleyball, Malatea trounced Dinday by two sets to one with the scores of (25-9), (2-25) and (15-7). In kho-kho summit clash, Dhidya Khala Lower outplayed Kotli Mian Feteh by 8 points to clinch the title.
The matches were officiated by Gurmeet Singh, Amalok Singh, Ravish Vaid, Gourav Sharma, Narinder Kour, Jugal Kishore and Gurmeet Singh.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Indira Khashu, Harvinder Kour, Yugal Kishore and Gurcharan Kour.
