Gulzar Ahmed Zargar elected as President of BWJA

BARAMULLA, Aug 26: Senior journalist Gulzar Ahmed Zargar, Special Correspondent Daily Headlines was elected as president of the Baramulla Working Journalists Association (BWJA), held here today.
The elections were held under the banner of North Kashmir Journalist Association-an amalgam of journalists associations of north Kashmir districts.
In the elections 34 journalists of Baramulla district participated, after which Gulzar Ahmed Zargar was elected as president and Umar Rashid was elected as General Secretary of BWJA.
In a closely contested election, Zargar Gulzar was re-elected as the President, he secured 22 out of 34 votes, while Sajad Hussain of Network 18 Urdu and Ashiq Mir of News X and Kashmir Wire received 6 votes each.
For the post of General Secretary, Omar Rashid was elected as the General Secretary of the association securing 12 votes while as Sheik Dawood and Arshid Farooq got 11 votes each so Umar Rashid emerged as victorious candidate with margin of one vote.
The election process was overseen by Chairman BWJA Haji Karamat Qayoom, Chief Election Observer Chairman of Human Aid Society Bashir Ahmad Mir who were flanked by independent election observers Noor ul Haq and Reyaz Rashid with senior journalist Altaf Baba of Greater Kashmir was the Returning Officer of the election process.
