JAMMU, Mar 2: Assailing the ruling leaders for making misleading announcements and false promises, more so, on eve of elections, the former Union Minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta observed that this was badly affecting the image of men in public life that they are not sincere to their utterances and pronouncements.
Addressing a meeting of activists of different areas, mostly from his Jammu West Assembly Constituency, Prof. Gupta said while ventilating the problems of the suffering people, all out efforts should be there to expose those parties and leaders who make false promises and do not act in accordance with their assurances.
In this regard, he referred to his bill in the Assembly seeking amendment in the State Constitution to have fresh delimitation to ensure fair distribution of Assembly seats to all the regions. This bill got rejected but for opposition by the coalition Government of which the Congress is partner although this party in their election manifestoes of 2002 and 2008 had promised such a bill.
Prof. Gupta also pointed out that in a hurry the foundation stone of a Rope-way in Jammu has been laid keeping in view it being an old demand but the fact remains that for this project the land is to be acquired and many other formalities are still to be completed.
He further said that four new medical colleges have been announced where as already existing Jammu Medical College and many other medical hospitals etc, were in limbo on many accounts. Large number of new administrative units have been approved but where are huge funds required for the infracture and salaries for the staff.
