JAMMU, Oct 2: Denouncing the heavy increase in the prices of diesel and the LPG resulting in sharp price all round adding to the sufferings of the commoner, the former Union Minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has asked the Government to come out clearly about their policy with regard to the supply of cooking gas as the confusing announcements are adding to the hardships of the consumers.
Highly confusing and contradictory statements are being made about the cost and supply of number of LPG cylinders and over the above, the consumers are being asked to get new verification of their connections with little proper arrangements for the purpose, he added and observed that there is some limit of putting the people to face miseries.
Prof. Gupta said that the verification of the LPG connections was launched some five months back and the process was still going on but after the new policy, the consumers are being asked to have fresh verification of their connections till then the supply of the cylinders would come to a halt. Moreover , there are little arrangements for renewed verifications resulting in long queues at such verification centers.
He said that the notifications about the cost of cylinders for households as also those of commercial purposes are also being changed and a big chaos and confusion is being created.
Castigating the new LPG policy, Prof. Gupta warned that this would adversely affect the already dwindling forests, as the people would be forced to resume burning of fire wood leading to destruction of forests.
He also felt that this would also add to the demand of existing poor supply of electricity and the increased power losses which are already proving a big burden on the economic health of the State and immense problems to the common man.
Prof. Gupta advocated for review the whole gambit with special attention to the sufferings of people in general.
