JAMMU, Apr 13: A meeting to review the functioning of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing Departments was held here today.
The meeting was chaired by Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary Forests.
He was accompanied by Arun Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary Forests, Shaheen Mohammad Ashraf, Director Finance, Forest Department, Ishfaq Pakchiwal, Joint Director (Plg), Forest Department.
Briefing the Principal Secretary regarding the working of the department Director DEE&RS, Suresh Chugh, IFS/APCCF made a Power Point presentation giving details about the projects accomplished, ongoing and in-pipeline.
The Principal Secretary took keen interest in projects and appreciated the work done by the department on some of the burning issues of Ecology and Environment of the state. A detailed discussion was held regarding the climate change issues and the Climate Change Centre in the Department of Ecology Environment and Remote Sensing.
On the occasion, Pr. Secretary Forests also released the quarterly newsletter published from ENVIS Centre of the Department. The newsletter contained an introspection on the floods in J&K, September-2014. The Director informed the Principal Secretary that the department has developed 24 layers of Natural Resource Census Data pertaining to J&K and has also completed 44 Remote Sensing projects. The department is also undertaking EIA studies and numerous such studies have been undertaken by the department, he was apprised.
The meeting was also attended by A.R. Mir, Regional Director, EE&RS(K), Q.D. Malik Regional Director, EE&RS(J), G.H. Mir, Technical Officer, Firdous Ahmad Mir, DCF (Hq), Neha Mehta, ESC, Jammu and Majid Farooq, Scientific Assistant.
