JAMMU, Nov 19: Resenting over the sharp rise in the price of the ration, the former Union Minister Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta observed that it sounds strange that no proper notification or cabinet decision has been announced, the prices of Wheat Atta and that of the Rice have been increased by over 60% viz. Wheat Atta from Rs. 8/- per kg to Rs. 13/- and that of Rice from Rs. 10/- to Rs. 15/- without assigning any reason.
Responding to the complaints of the consumers over the sad situation created in the supply of rations Prof. Gupta said that there were already complaints regarding non regular supply of the rations. It is quite amazing that even the ration cards have not been issued so far despite expiry of several months of announcement about the launching new scheme of things. There are also complaints of large scale irregularities in the preparations of list of rationees of various categories, he added.
Many consumers brought to the notice of Prof. Gupta that for the past several months there was not proper supply of rations even after enforcement of National Food Security Act (NFSA). Moreover, the scale of the rations especially that of the sugar has been decreased from 700 grams to 500 grams per head per month but that too was not being supplied regularly.
Several ration dealers complained that they are facing problems because of irregular supply of the rations to the depots and the authorities coming out with no proper announcement for decrease in the scale of the sugar or other rations.
Prof. Gupta said that the flaws in the supply of rations needed to be rectified at the earliest as this affects every household and recoils over the functioning of the dispensation.
