JAMMU, Jan 23: The former Union Minister and MLA, Jammu West, Assembly Segment,  Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta today visited the Super Specialty Hospital, Medical College, Jammu and was highly disappointed over the functioning of this main medical wing of the institution.
He regretted that even after spending over 100 crores, this highest health care institution represents an awful situation.
During his visit, Prof. Gupta found that all the seven faculties were in quite disarray position. There was little functioning of various departments, so much so there was little staffing and what was working there that too was unsatisfactory. The lower staff was without salaries for months together.
He said there was poor funding and no proper arrangements to provide medicines and treatment. Even the medical tests are being directed to conducted from outside.
There appear deliberate attempts to make the institute a failure and bring disrepute to it so as to make certain vested interests beneficiaries, he alleged and expressed surprise that even for checking the blood pressure the patients are being asked to make payments.
He also pointed out that under a design some costly constructions are being demolished.
He urged the State Governor and other high ups in the Government to take note of the sad situation which is being created for reasons best known to the people at the helm of affairs.
Prof. Gupta alleged that he being the MLA of the area was never consulted about the working of this medical institute although under rules he should be the chairman of Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS).
