Gurezi inaugurates Kissan Mela

Minister of State for Agriculture, Nazir Ahmed Khan inaugurating Kissan Mela on Thursday.

UDHAMPUR, Mar 7: Minister of State for Agriculture, Nazir Ahmed Khan (Gurezi), today inaugurated Awareness Camp cum Kissan Mela organized by J&K State Kissan Advisory Board in collaboration with Department of Agriculture Udhampur at Village Bharnara in block Majalta of district Udhampur.
Vice Chairman J&K Kissan Advisory Board, Radhey Sham Sharma, Secretary Kissan Advisory Board, G. N Mir, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Surat Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, K.S Samyal, other officers of Agriculture and line departments were present on the occasion.
Appreciating the efforts of the Agriculture Department, the Minister said that these awareness camps cum melas are the need of the hour to apprise the farming community regarding the ongoing schemes and level of subsidy available with the departments.
He said that mainstay of the people in rural areas is agriculture and added that the farmers should take the advantage of these camps and adopt all the technical know-how imparted by the various departments in their fields to uplift their economic status. He also commended the efforts of the department in the field of Agriculture Machinery and implements and its promotion in rural areas of the district.
Minister apprised that Chief Minister has setup Kissan Advisory Board in the State for the welfare of the farming community and called upon the Panchs and Sarpanchs to aware the farming community about the various departmental schemes by holding awareness meets in the wards of their respective Panchayats.
The Government is keen to setup Panchayat Level Cooperative Society shortly which would prove instrumental to provide all required material like fertilizer, seeds, pesticides etc timely at their door steps which would definitely lend a hand to boost the agricultural production, the Minister added.
Vice Chairman J&K Kissan Advisory Board said that the convergence of all the stake holders under the one umbrella would act as a platform to work out the future course of action for increasing the production and productivity level of farming community and raise their socio-economic status. He said that such type of camps would be organized at various Panchayats in near future to explore new vistas in the field of Agriculture and allied sector and hoped that such awareness programmes would boldly help in increasing income, rooting out drudgery and rural indebitness of the farmers.
The main attraction of the awareness camp cum Kissan Mela were stalls laid out by different departments viz; horticulture, sericulture, Sheep Husbandry, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Floriculture, Apiculture, Mushroom and private players.
