JAMMU, Jan 17: Minister of State for Animal and Sheep Husbandry (Independent Charge), PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control and Agriculture, Horticulture Nazir Ahmad Gurezi today reiterated the Government’s commitment to improve rural economy by tapping local potential through promotion of animal rearing and other allied activities.
Interacting with a deputation of Veterinary doctors, who called on him here today, Gurezi said that the Department of Animal and Sheep Husbandry can change the economic profile of rural areas by tapping the huge cattle and sheep rearing potential and expertise available in the State. He said that majority of rural population in the State was associated with cattle and sheep rearing but it has still to rely on huge imports of milk mutton and poultry. He said if tapped properly, this activity can solve the unemployment problem in the State to a large extent. He sought full cooperation of the departmental experts in achieving this long cherished goal.
The deputation of Jammu and Kashmir Veterinary Doctors Association Jammu (JKVDA), led by Vice President Dr. Zaffar Iqbal apprised the Minister that for the complete and overall development of the agriculture sector, development of the veterinary sector is most urgent at this moment as more growth can be achieved in this sector. There is urgent and dire need for more white revolutions for which planning at higher level was required.
Among others, Secretary, JKVDA, Dr. Rahul Dev, Publicity Secretary Dr. Jaswant Singh, Treasurer, Dr. Vinay Vishal Sharma, District Executive, Dr. Majid Iqbal and other Doctors of the Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department were present on the occasion.
Earlier, a deputation from Gurez also called on Minister.
