Gurgaon to host first Indian national defence univ: PM to lay foundation

GURGAON, May 18:
The first Indian National Defence University (INDU) in the country to enable holistic study of defence and strategic security challenges will be set up at village Binola in district Gurgaon of Haryana.
The foundation stone of INDU would be laid by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 23 May 2013 and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda will be the guest of honour at the ceremony.
Stating this here today, Deputy Commissioner P C Meena said the university would be established at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore, over 200 acres land at Binola in Gurgaon.
The land has already been acquired by the Government of Haryana.
He said Binola has been chosen owing to its proximity to the national capital. It is expected that a large number of students from own and foreign security forces and civilian officials would undergo various training programmes and courses at INDU every year.
One third students in the university would be civilians.
The Education Consultants of India Ltd (EdCIL), a Public Sector Enterprise set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, has been appointed by the Ministry of Defence as consultant for formulation of the Detailed Project Report, Layout Plan and INDU Act & Statutes.
The proposed University would be fully autonomous and constituted under an Act of Parliament. It would promote policy-oriented research on all aspects of national security as part of the strategic national policy-making.
The University would facilitate courses in Post Graduate (M Sc/M Tech), Master in Philosophy (M Phil) and Doctorate (Ph D) in the disciplines of Defence Studies, Defence Management and Defence Science & Technology. (UNI)
