JAMMU, Nov 15: The Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust, a Non-Governmental Organisation working for the Tribals of J&K for the last three decades, celebrated “Janjatiya Gourav Diwas”, here today.
During the programme, rich tribute were paid to Birsa Munda and the speakers threw light on his life and struggle for the tribal community.
Squadron Leader Anil Sehgal was the chief guest on the occasion. He lauded the role of Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust in promoting the education among tribals, preserving their rich culture. He also suggested various measures for the improvement of Gojri language & culture.
In the welcome address, General Secretary GDCT M S Chouhan spoke about the aims & objectives of GDCT for the upliftment of tribal community. He said that this programme is continuation of the mission started by Late Dr Masud Ahmed Choudhary to work for the welfare and upliftment of the tribals to encourage them to work harder to succeed in their lives.
Chairman of the Trust, Shah Mohd Chowdhary exhorted the youth to work hard and succeed in their respective fields of Education, Media & Art & Culture as well.
During the celebration different items of Gojri culture & education were presented. These included Gojri song by guest of honour Seema Sehgal and Gojri Bait by Azad Ahmed Azad. Dr Mussarat Chowdhary highlighted the status of education among tribals.
Dr Nasreen Choudhary emphasized on various health issues of tribal women. Nikhat Choudhary presented New Education Policy for Tribals. Dr Javaid Rahi informed the guests about the tribal identity & various developmental schemes of Govt.
Bashir Ahmed Noon threw light on struggle and life of Birsa Munda. Hamid Choudhary, Vice Chairman GDCT also spoke on the occasion. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Naseem Akhter.
