LEH, Nov 14: On the occasion of Gurpurab, the Sikh community residing in Leh thronged Gurudwara Shri Pathar Sahib and celebrated the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev with religious fervour and gaiety.
Shri Pathar Sahib, located on Leh-Srinagar National highway, about 25 Km from the town, witnessed huge gathering of Army and paramilitary forces serving in Leh and general devotees. Large number of devotees, especially from belt forces, were seen offering voluntarily services at Gurudwara to earn merit. Group of Army personnel were seen busy chopping vegetable while other were busy making Roti in the Langar.
Talking to media, Sepoy Jaspal Singh said that they had been preparing Roti since 2 A.M and approximately one quintal Chapattis would be made to served in the Langar. Another devotee Sukhwinder Singh, also serving in Army, said that he used to come there every Sunday to seek blessing from Guru and today it was special occasion to pay obeisance. “Though I feel bad for staying away from family for a long but visiting Guru Dwara infuses fresh energy to serve the nation with dedication,” he added.
Member of Guru Dwara Pathar Sahib, informed about historical back ground of this place and said that after his spiritual discourse at Summer Mountain, Guru Nanak Dev arrived there in 1517 where a wicked demon was staying on the mountain overlooking this place. “The demon used to trouble the local populace and he also tried to kill Guru Nanak Ji by rolling down a massive boulders. The boulder miraculously turned soft like wax on touching Guruji, whose rear body sank softy into the boulder. Seeing this, demon fell at Guru Ji’s feet and pleaded mercy for his evil deeds. Guru Nanak Dev opened his eyes and advised the demon to devote the rest of his life in the service of people,” he narrated.
