Gurpurab celebrated with religious fervour

JAMMU, Jan 5: ‘Parkash Purb’  of  Guru Gobind Singh Ji,  was celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious fervour across the State today.
The main function, on the 350th birthday of Guru Gobind Singh Ji was jointly organised by District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC), Jammu  at  Gurdwara Yadgar Sri Guru  Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar (Lower Gumat), Jammu  today. A large number of devotees from various parts of Jammu    attended the programme and offered special prayers.
There was huge rush of Sikh Sangat in this  Gurudwara since early in the morning.  Gurdwara was highly decorated  by the management  committee. Hazoori  Ragis Bhai Jasbir Singh Jamalpuri of Sri  Darbar  Sahib Amritsar  and Bhai Mahinder Singh of Delhi, recited `Gurvani Path’ during the religious programme at the venue.
Noted Sikh preacher,  Bhai Gurdeep Singh from Ludhaina threw light on the life and achievements of Guru Gobind Singh Ji for Khalsa Panth  and entire humanity. He said that dynamic approach of  this great Guru towards religion and deep humanism and concern for the outcastes  and for dignified life of down trodden immensely raised stature of  Guru Gobind Singh Ji in the eyes of entire humanity. He said that teachings and principles of this great Guru are more relevant today and can bring  great peace in the world.  Prominent preachers  from  Jammu Sant Tejwant Singh  and Bhai Harmeet Singh also addressed religious gathering.
State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board Chairman,  T S Wazir and DGPC Jammu president,  Jagjit Singh and general secretary Avtar Singh Khalsa also addressed the gathering and greeted the Sikh Sangat on this occasion.  They appealed the people to follow the path shown by this great Guru for the world peace  and serve the humanity.
On this occasion, several resolutions were unanimously adopted  by the Sikh Sangat and later a copy was handed over to the chief guest and special invitees, Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta,  State BJP president  Sat Sharma (MLA Jammu West), MLCs Charanjeet Singh Khalsa, Ramesh Arora  and  Ashok Koul,   BJP State Secretary (org).
The major demands projected in the memorandum included, setting up of Minority Commission in the State, appointment of Punjabi teachers in State educational institutions, establishment of Guru Gobind Singh chair in the Punjabi Department of Jammu University,  settlement of PoK refugees’  issue once for all and installation of statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur  at Kunjwani Chowk.
Speaker, Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta and State BJP president Sat Sharma while speaking on the occasion greeted the people on the occasion  of Gurpurab and  said that people should follow the path shown by the great Guru Gobind Singh Ji of brotherhood and humanity. They said that Guru Gobind Singh Ji embodies the spirit of sacrifice and goodwill for mankind  and the people should try to inculcate his inspirational teachings that are still relevant in today’s world.
While announcing establishment of Guru Gobind Singh Chair in the Punjabi Department of Jammu University, Speaker informed the gathering that for this purpose an initial contribution of Rs 50 lakh will be made by  the MLCs and MPs from their own CDF.  He further announced   a contribution of Rs 10 lakh from his CDF for the up-gradation of Guru Nanak Missionary Hospital located at Nanak Nagar, Jammu.
Responding to the demand of  Singh community for declaring Kunjwani Chowk as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk in Jammu,  Gupta said that this project has been passed  and funds to the tune of Rs 10 lakh have been allotted for it. He assured that work on the project would be expedited.
Similar function was held at Digiana Ashram under the guidance of  Mahant Manjit Singh Ji of Dera Nangali Sahib. A large number of devotees offered special prayers to mark the occasion. The special programmes  were also held at Nanak Nagar, Rehari Chungi, Jain Bazar, Talab Tillo,  RS Pura   and Akhnoor Gurdwaras. The reports of  celebrations have also been received from Kathua, Samba, Poonch, Rajouri,  Nowshera, Udhampur, Reasi,  Srinagar, Baramulla and Pather Sahib in Leh.
A Kirtan Darbar was organised at Gurdawara Baba Chanda Singh Ji at Jain Bazar Jammu today to celebrate the occasion. A large number of devotees thronged Gurdwara to attend Kirtan Darbar. Community Langars were  also organised in all the Gurdawars today.
In Poonch, the grand religious programme held at main Gurdwara Singh Sabha was also attended by MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, SSP Poonch JS Johar, ADC Gurvinder Jeet Singh and Dy Comander of Poonch Brigade.  The MP announced Rs 5 lakh for the Gurdwara works from his CDF.
