Farooq recalls sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh

JAMMU, Jan 6: The 358th Parkashpurab of the 10th Guru of Sikhs, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj was celebrated in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir with religious fervour today.
A grand function in this connection was held at Digiana Ashram (Gurdwara) Jammu under the supervision of Mahant Manjeet Singh of Dera Nangali Sahib, Poonch.
A large number of devotees participated in the program besides various Sikh organizations including- Sikh United Front J&K, Bhai Kanheya Nishkam Sewa Society, Shiromani Akali Dal J&K, Sikh Naujwan Sabha, local Gurdwara Committee. Ragi Jathas including Bhai Sukhpreet Singh Hazuri Ragi Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar, Bhai Gurpreet Singh Ragi Jatha Jalandhar, Harbhinder Singh Incharge Sikh Mission J&K, Bhai Gagandeep Singh Kirtan Jatha Simbal Camp, Bhai Bachan Singh and Bhai Ranjeet Singh UP, Hazuri Ragi Digiana Ashram Jammu threw light on the life of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj.
Former Chief Minister J&K, Dr Farooq Abdullah while addressing religious gathering highlighted the sacrifices made by Guru Gobind Singh Ji for the weak and downtrodden and asked everyone to follow virtuous path shown by the Guru so that we can transform ourselves into an egalitarian society. Dr Abdullah also said that he always stand by the genuine demands and needs of the Sikh community and will always work for the betterment of the Sikh community.
Sudershan Singh Wazir, Chairman Sikh United Front spoke on the life of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. He highlighted that Guru Gobind Singh Ji fought 21 battles and won all of them. He added that for the sake of humankind Guru Gobind Singh Ji sacrificed his whole family including his four sons.
Wazir said that sikhs have always been on forefront whenever the country needed as he talked about the contribution of Late Dr Manmohan Singh former PM during 1990s when he saved Indian economy which was on the verge of collapse. He also talked about restoring Statehood to J&K as promised by the PM and Home Minister in Parliament of India after Assembly elections in J&K.
Other political leaders from various parties including Raman Bhalla working president JKPCC, Dr Narinder Singh MLA, Vikram Randhawa MLA, Rattan Lal Gupta Provincial president of NC for Jammu, Dr Mustafa Kamal also greeted people on the occasion of Gurpurab.
Mahant Manjit Singh while addressing the Sangat asked the people to follow the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji who sacrificed his entire family to save humanity and stress upon Sikh community to adopt the path shown by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in every field of life to become true and pure Sikh for serving the poor and needy people. All human beings are creation of one God so all should be treated equally irrespective of caste color, creed, religion and region. All the parents should keep close watch on their children to save them from drugs and other evil deeds, he added.
Similar functions were held at Sunderbani, Nowshera and Rajouri.
