Sikhs demand release of Ansari Comm Report

JAMMU, Jan 2: Birthday of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj, the founder of Khalsa Panth , was celebrated with great religious fervour and gaiety across the region today.
All the Gurdwaras in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Srinagar, Baramulla and other parts of the J&K UT were highly decorated and since morning Sikh Sangat including women and children in large numbers, thronged these religious places to offer special prayers and seek blessings of the great Guru.

The main function in this connection was organized at Gurdwara Yadgar Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Lower Gumat (Chand Nagar), by the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Jammu. Thousands of people since early morning thronged the Gurdwara and offered special prayers. Gurdwara and main approach passage to the venue was also highly decorated.
Prominent Sikh preachers and Ragi Jathas from within and outside the State, delivered sermons and recited ‘Gurvani-Path’. The speakers threw light on the life and teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, describing him a saint soldier and a poet who picked up sword to fight against the oppression and infused martial spirit in the people by soul inspiring heroic poetry.
Bhai Sukhvarsh Singh Pannu, Member SGPC Amritsar, Bhai Jaswinder Singh, Manager, Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, Bhai Sarabjeet Singh, Parcharak and Gurdwara Manji Sahib, Sri Amritsar delivered sermons.
Ragi Jathas of Bhai Balkar Singh-Ludhiana, Bhai Mohinder Singh of Delhi, Bhai Surinder Pal Singh, Bhai Harpreet Singh Chohala, Bhai Rattan Singh of DGPC Jammu and Bhai Ranjeet Singh – UP, also recited the sermons.
Mahant Manjeet Singh Ji, head priest Shiromani Dera Nangali Sahib, Poonch and Sant Tejwant Singh Ji, head Dera Santpura Danna, Nanak Nagar, Jammu were also present on the occasion and threw light on the life and teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
TS Wazir (ex-MLC), Chairman State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board while addressing the gathering, greeted the Sangat and urged the Lieutenant Governor’s Administration to fulfill the legitimate demands of the Sikh community and assured the Sangat that DGPC Jammu and State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board with the cooperation and support of Sikh Sangat shall continue its whole hearted efforts for the redressal of all the genuine demands of Sikh community.
On this occasion resolutions highlighting religious, social and political problems faced by the minority Sikh community in the UT of J&K were presented. The resolutions were proposed by Jathedar Mohinder Singh, member DGPC and president, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) J&K seconded by Ramnik Singh, member DGPC and approved by the Sangat amidst chanting of religious slogans.
The main issues projected in the resolutions included, settlement of refugees from PoJK as per the report of Cabinet Sub Committee dated 20-10-14, payment of Rs 30 lakh per family as a one- time settlement and reservation in professional colleges/ jobs outside J&K for the children of displaced families; publication of Ansari Commission Report with regard to anti-Sikh riots of 1984 and 1989; inclusion of Sikhs living in Kashmir in SRO 425; implementation of Anand Marriage Act in J&K; establishment of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Chair in Jammu University, giving Punjabi its due place in UT of J&K; run special train from Jammu to Anandpur Sahib, removal of shops constructed on Gurdwara land at Chand Nagar and offer special package for Transport industry in J&K.
DGP, J&K, Dilbag Singh, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, IGP Jammu ,Mukesh Singh besides several political leaders including State BJP chief Ravinder Raina, provincial president of NC Devender Singh Rana and some Congress leaders also offered prayers at Chand Nagar Gurdwara and greeted the Sikh community members.
DGPC Jammu president, Jagjit Singh, Fateh Singh, general secretary and some other members also spoke on the occasion. Other DGPC members Kuldeep Singh, Mohinder Singh, Manmohan Singh, Avtar Singh Khalsa, Ramnik Singh, Darbinder Singh H S Raina and Raja Singh, besides Surinder Singh Wazir and others were also present.
