JAMMU Feb 3: The 638th Jayanti of Guru Ravi Dass Ji a revolutionary saint of India was celebrated with religious fervour and geity across the Jammu region today.
The main function was held at Guru Ravi Dass Sabha Krishna Nagar here where a large number of devotees drawn from different parts of Jammu participated.
Provincial president Devender Singh Rana who also addressed the gathering called for imbibing the spirit of selflessness and righteousness as preached by saints and sages from times immemorial, saying camaraderie and fellow feelings are imperative for the harmonious growth of society.
Paying tributes to great saint and social reformer Guru Ravi Dass ji on his Jayanti at a largely attended congregation at Gurudwara Guru Ravi Dass ji Maharaj at Krishna Nagar here, Mr Rana said that best way of celebrating the occasion is to take a pledge to follow his teachings in letter and spirit and work for building a society based on the natural principles of social justice, equality, compassion, love and togetherness.
Dwelling upon the life and teachings of Guruji, several speakers recalled his eventful life and said he emerged as a beacon light at a time when the society was engulfed by darkness. “Those were the times when fellow human beings were being discriminated on the basis of caste and creed”, they said and referred to the great role played by the Guruji in ensuring that all segments of the society live with honour and dignity.
The speakers made a fervent appeal to devotees to act upon and spread the message of love, peace and compassion, which was the high point of Guruji’s life. On the occasion, a langar was organized for the devout and cultural programme presented, which depicted various facets of the life of Guru Ravi Dass ji.
Besides Vijay Lochan, President of the Guru Ravi Dass Sabha, Jammu, Sr Vice President Sham Sundar Basson and Sham Lal Basson, senior National Conference leaders Rattan Lal Gupta, Th Kashmira Singh and Choudhary Haroon were also present in the congregation.
The Parkash Utsav of Guru Ravi Dass was celebrated at Gurudwara Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib, Omara Morh by 137 CRPF BN, jawans of SK Police Academy, Army and local Sangath.
Another function was held at Udhampur which started with Prabhat Pheri and Bhajan Kirtan through every nook and corner of the town.
638th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Ravi Dass was celebrated by All J&JK Ramdassia Conference in village Mand, Udhampur under the kind control of advocate Sanjeet Bavouria Chairman of the Conference. A large number of devotees were present in the celebration and performed Shabed Kirten based on preaching’s of Baba Guru Ravi Dass Jee.
The birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Shri Guru Ravidas was celebrated with enthusiasm in Reasi today.
Several functions including Shradhanjali Samaroh, religious meets Bhajan and Kirtan were held at shri Guru Ravi Dass Gurudwara Marri, Reasi.
BJP MLA Ajay Nanda attend the function and called upon the youths to follow the path of Guru Ravi Dass and spread the message of love and peace in the society. ‘Each section of society should be given equal respect’, he said.
Babu Jagjeevan Lal ex Minister also joined the function. He said that the new generation should follow the path of peace love shown by Guru. Later a langar was also organised at the Gurudwara. The main function was organized by Shri Guru Ravi Dass Sabha District Reasi.
A massive candle lights memorial was held by several volunteers of National Panthers Party (NPP) in Jammu, Delhi and Chandigarh in memory of 638th birth anniversary today. Hundreds of Panthers Party volunteers took a pledge to fight against social evils in the society particularly against casteism, communalism and hatred which are responsible for the cause of social conflict, backwardness and poverty in the Indian society.
Addressing a mammoth candle light rally in Delhi, NPP Supremo Prof.Bhim Singh paid rich tributes to Sant Ravi Dass and several other saints in our society who made richest contribution to fight social evils like casteism and communalism to make India great and strong.
