JAMMU, Feb 24: Guru Ravi Dass Jayanti was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across the region today.
A grand function was organised at Guru Ravi Dass Temple, Krishna Nagar, Jammu in connection with the 647th Parkash Utsav of Sant Shri Guru Ravi Dass Ji Maharaj today. The function was held under the chairmanship of Piran Ditta, president All J&K Guru Ravi Dass Sabha.
The temple of Guru Ravi Dass Ji and the venue of the function – Sabha Bhawan were highly decorated by the Management Committee . A large number of devotees from various parts of Jammu along with their families thronged the temple of the great Guru since early morning today to offer prayers. Huge rush of the people was witnessed at the venue during the day long function.
The function started with Bhajan Kirtan, followed by speeches on the life and teachings of the great Guru by the Sabha president Piran Ditta, JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla as chief guest, former Chief Secretary- BR Kundal, guest of honour, NSUI former president Neeraj Kundan and other dignitaries.
On this occasion, children presented cultural performance, with their beautiful dances and devotional songs, which was highly appreciated by the Sangat. Renowned singers from different parts of J&K UT and from Punjab paid their respectful homage to Great Guru Ravi Dass Ji through their ‘Bhagati Sangeet’.
Speaking on this occasion Sabha president, Piran Ditta threw light on the life and mission of Guru Ravi Das Ji and said that Guru’s ‘Pavitar Vani’ teaches us to stand for truth and be kind to human beings. Today, we have the opportunity on holy birthday of Guru Sahib to spread his pious message. He claimed that our Samaj is duty bound to save the Constitution of India-given to us by Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar. Any attempt to change in constitution will be fought tooth and nail by the Dalit Samaj.
Bhalla while greeting the people on this occasion recalled the teachings of great Guru and asked people to follow the path shown by the Guru Ravi Dass Ji for the humanity and equality. He said the teachings of Guru Ravi Dass Ji are most relevant even today. The message of Guru regarding love, peace, equality and respect to all should be followed by every human being.
B R Kundal called for strengthening the bonds of amity and working towards achieving the objective of social empowerment and this will be biggest tribute to Guru Ravi DassJi.
Prominent among those present included Raj Kumar Raja, Dr Raj Pal Hans, Mulkh Raj, Romesh Hans, Darshan Rana, Deepak Bangotra, Banarsi DassDigra, Joginder, Digra, Chaman Lal, Om Parkash, Krishan Sangral Sham Basson.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta has said that Guru Ravidas Jayanti is a reminder to celebrate human rights, love for one another and practice equality.
He expressed this in his address during a programme organised in connection with the celebration of Shri Guru Ravi Dass Jayanti by Ravidas Vichar Samiti at Chhani here today. A large number of devotees were present at the celebration venue on the occasion. Gupta said the teachings of the great saint are as relevant today as these were during the life times of the great saint.
Senior BJP leader Ranjodh Singh Nalwa (Head Minority Morcha) also attended function at Krishna Nagar Sabha Bhawan and greeted people on this occasion. Nalwa threw light on the teachings of the great Guru.
Similar function was held at Nowshera, where former MLC and JKPCC senior vice president Ravinder Sharma was the chief guest. He greeted the people on the occasion and threw light on the teachings of great Guru.
