SRINAGAR, May 12: Governor N N Vohra, who is Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, discussed various issues relating to the improvement of the road leading to the base camp at Baltal and clearance of the tracks for ensuring smooth movement of Yatris to the holy cave shrine during the ensuing Shri Amarnathji Yatra, which commences on June 25.
K. B. Agarwal, Principal Secretary, PWD, B. B. Vyas, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, Tanvir Jehan, Commissioner/Secretary PWD (Designate), and Brig. T. P. S. Rawat, Chief Engineer, BEACON Project, participated in the meeting.
The Governor reviewed the status of implementation of the recommendations made by the High Level Committee (HLC) which was set up in October 2011 on the directions of the Governor and the Chief Minister after last year’s Yatra, particularly those relating to the opening and clearing of tracks along both the routes to the holy cave shrine. He held detailed discussions on issues relating to the upgradation of road link from Ranga Morh to the Baltal base camp, as well as the time-bound improvement of the Baltal-Holy Cave track, in the first instance. Work on other tracks and sites would commence, full-scale, after the end of the Yatra, on August 2.
The Governor also discussed matters relating to the expected pace of snowmelt, problems relating to snow clearance in the crucial segments of the Yatra area and the status of the preparatory arrangements for ensuring the smooth and orderly movement of the pilgrims to the Nunwan and Baltal base camps and, thereafter, to the tracks leading to the holy cave shrine.
The CEO informed the meeting about the latest position in regard to the implementation of the High Level Committee recommendations. He stated that the Governor is scheduled to undertake aerial reconnaissance of the Yatra area from both the routes during 15th – 19th May 2012 with a view to deciding the date of commencement of work to clear the tracks on both the Chandanwari and Baltal axis and, besides, to commence repair of huts and other structures at Sheshnag, Panjtarni and holy cave camps.
