JAMMU, Sept 20: Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) and National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI) have urged the Governor to declare public holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh.
In a press statement issued today, Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak, president of Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) and convener of AJCSF, expressed his dismay over not declaring the holiday on September 23, the birth anniversary of the last Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh despite the fact that a resolution has already been adopted by the State Legislative Council, J&K.
Charak further said that DSS shall celebrate the birth anniversary of the Maharaja on September 23 at DSS Bhawan at 10 AM and appealed all members of DSS and AJCSF to participate in the event. He said that Maharaja Hari Singh was known for his bold personality, reformative approach and a forward looking strong secular rule.
Highlighting the contributions and achievements of the great Maharaja, he urged the public to carry forward his message of secularism, gender equation, women education, removal of untouchability and justice for all.
Meanwhile, NDPI State president, Rajesh Gupta, also demanded to declare the birth anniversary of Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh on September 23 as State holiday, “The sentiments of people of Jammu are associated with Maharaja Hari Singh and the Governor must declare (a State) holiday on his birth anniversary,” said Gupta.
“Let us recall that it was due to Maharaja Hari Singh ji that Jammu and Kashmir State became a part of India when he signed the instrument of accession on October 26, 1947. Apart from that he was a progressive and a far-sighted ruler who instituted many social and economic reforms for the welfare of the people,” Gupta said and also demanded that the Super Specialty Hospital Jammu be renamed as Maharaja Hari Singh Super Specialty Hospital Jammu.
