Guv’s concern over drug abuse must be translated into reality: Team Jammu

JAMMU, June 23: SSP Jammu, Tejinder Singh today said that better coordination among parents, teachers, Mohalla committees, Panchayats and police personnel is must to check growing influence of drug abuse among youth in the society.
He was addressing gathering during a function on ‘Drug Abuse’, organized by Team Jammu, here today. The program was organized in connection with ‘World Anti Drug Day’. SSP Jammu was chief guest on the occasion, while Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal presided over the function. SP, City North, Amritpal Singh, SP City, South, Vinay Sharma, SP SOG, Jammu, Sandeep Mehta and eminent Journalist , Pardeep Dutta were guests of honour on the occasion.
“10 to 15 per cent of our youth are drug addicts so remaining population of the society is duty bound to liberate this section from the yoke of this addiction. We are aggressively dealing with that 10 to 15 per cent but civil society as a whole must come forward and save remaining 85 to 90 percent youth from the menace”, said Tejinder Singh and informed about the series of program under way to make general public aware of the ill effects of drug abuse.
Welcoming Governor S P Malik’s concern over growing drug abuse in the State, Zorawar Singh Jamwal asserted that this concern should not remain mere statement but must be translated into reality and drug mafia has to be dealt with iron hands to save younger generation.
Appreciating the police for launching campaign against drug mafia in Jammu, Zorawar Singh, however, said that still there are some black sheep among cops involved in helping drug mafia. “Need of the hour is to single out such black sheep to make the ongoing campaign more effective and result oriented”, he added.
Pradeep Dutta explained that the biggest reason teens start using drugs is because their friends utilize peer pressure.
