Gyalwang stresses on living in harmony with environment

NEW DELHI, Jan 10: Ladakh Student Welfare Society Delhi, celebrated its Annual Day-cum-New year (Ladakh Losar) at the Weightlifting Indoor Auditorium, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi.
The function started with two minutes silence prayer observed in memory of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the former Chief Minister of the State and late Jigmet Angdu, Cultural Secretary, Ladakh Student Welfare Society, Delhi.
His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa was the chief guest on the occasion . Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister, Mines & Steel was the special guest and Dr. Chandan Mitra, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) was the Guest of Honour. A large number of students and other Ladakhis present in Delhi participated in the function besides representatives from the Bhutanese Embassy and Bhutanese students studying in Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, Gyalwang Drukpa stressed on the importance of living in harmony with the environment and cultivating compassionate towards all irrespective of one’s religion and faith. He also stressed upon the students who are the future citizen of the world to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Ladakh while receiving modern education in various disciplines.
Speaking on the occasion Narendra Singh Tomar congratulated Gyalwang Drukpa and the Kung Fu nuns for successfully completing about 2500 kms of eco- cycling yatra from Kathmandu to Delhi through the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh spreading the message of Swachh Bharat and women empowerment. He also congratulated his Holiness for undertaking other timely environmental issues including massive plantation drive in Ladakh.
Dr Chandan Mitra in his speech elaborated the importance of the teachings of Lord Buddha which is relevant to the world even after more than 2550 years. He also mentioned the contribution of king Ashoka, his son Mahindra and daughter Sangamitra in spreading the message of Lord Buddha to Sri Lanka and other south- East Asian Countries.
On this occasion, the Ladakh Student Welfare Society Delhi presented a colorful cultural program, Photo Exhibition, stall on Ladakh food and beverage, history of Ladakh and activities of Live to Love etc. The Bhutanese students also participated in the cultural program.
During the function, a book “Eight Fold Path” on Gyalwang Drukpa’s Pad Yataras written and forwarded by Dr. Chandan Mitra was released by Narendra Singh Tomar.
This program was organized by Ladakh Student Welfare Society Delhi in collaboration with Live to Love India, under the leadership of Arjun Pandey as its chairperson.
