SRINAGAR, June 14: Residents of Mir Mohalla in Hajin town of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district today protested against the Jal Shakti Department’s failure to ensure a regular supply of drinking water.
Primarily comprising women, the protestors held a silent sit-in to emphasize the severity of their situation and to implore authorities to address their plight. Expressing their frustration, Raja, a participant in the protest, said, “We are deprived of safe drinking water, especially during crucial times. The burden falls disproportionately on women, who have to trek long distances to get water for their daily needs,” she said.

For many days, they said, residents have endured dry taps, compelling them to resort to fetching water from distant sources, including polluted irrigation canals, heightening concerns about waterborne diseases.
“The absence of adequate drinking water has subjected us to immense hardship,” a local said.
He emphasized the failure of the department to provide potable water, particularly ahead of Eid ul Adha.
Residents urged the authorities to expedite the installation of new pipelines to ensure a regular water supply directly to their homes.
