POONCH, Dec 30: Prominent Gujjar leader Shamsher Hakla Poonchi has appealed to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti that before conducting Panchayat elections in the State, segments of Block and District Councils of Panchayati Raj system for Gujjars and Bakarwal Schedule Tribe community should be made reserved.
The Gujjar and Bakarwal community will elect Chairman for Block and District Councils and due representation should be given to them in Panchayati Raj system.
Hakla said that twenty districts of Jammu and Kashmir are having Gujjar Bakarwal community people, who are politically, socially, educationally and economically backward owing to which they have been granted the status of Schedule Tribe by the Government of India and due to this prerogative, they have the constitutional right of reservation in political and administrative system.
