Hakla asks Govt to take steps for welfare of Gujjars

POONCH, June 17: Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi, the prominent Gujjar leader today said that after converting J&K into Union Territory (U.T) the Government should take concrete steps for the welfare and upliftment of Gujjar Bakarwal Tribe in the UT.
In a statement he said most areas inhibited Gujjar Bakarwal Tribe lack facilities like road communication, electricity, water supply schemes, medical facilities and educational which put this Tribe in lot of hardships and problems.
He demanded opening of boarding schools in all the districts of J&K for boys and girl students the community and also for establishing a Tribal University for Gujjar Bakarwal students.
He also demanded inclusion of Gojri language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution
and urged the UT Government to make a recommendation in this regard.
He demanded reservation of the Assembly segments and Lok Sabha segments in J&K for Gujjar Bakarwal community and permanent settlement of unsettled Gujjar families.
