Hakla for permanent settlement, of Nomadic Gujars

POONCH, Nov 22: Shamsher Hakla Poonchi a prominent Gujjar leader and intellectual has appealed the Government of India to sanction the special economic package and make a policy for the permanent settlement and upliftment, welfare of unsettled Nomadic people of Gujjar -Bakkarwal Tribe of J&K who have been living unsettled Nomadic life till date.
In a statement issued here, today he said that the Gujjars and Bakkarwals of J&K are divided into three tribes settled, half settled, and unsettled Nomadic. The problems, the language and culture of the Gujjar Bakkarwal Tribe are quite different from other communities of J&K, that is why this Tribe has its own peculiar position and it has its own identity customs, and unique way of life.
Hakla said that the half settled and unsettled Nomadic Tribes of Gujjar and Bakkarwals people along with their belongings, families, and cattle go to the heights of hills and mountains (Dhoks) for grazing of their cattle. There they live for about six months of the Summer season, every year, he added.
