POONCH, Sept 30: Shamsher Hakla Poonchi, a prominent Gujjar leader and intellectual of Jammu and Kashmir has appealed the Governor of the State to approach the Government of India with the recommendation that Gojri language be included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India. In a statement issued here today Hakla said this would ensure the development and spread of Gojri language. He further added that the Gojri language is being spoken by a very large number population of Gujjars and Bakerwals of Jammu and Kashmir State.
The number of such people goes over thirty four lakh which in no way could be ignored as their only mother language is Gojri, he said, adding therefore, keeping in view the demand of such a huge number of population of Gujjar and Bakerwals of J&K State the inclusion of Gojri language in the 8th Schedule of Constitution of India, is most genuine and justified.
