Hamas rockets target Israel nuclear reactor

JERUSALEM, July 10:  Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system has intercepted a rocket and two others fell in open areas as Palestinian group Hamas targeted the nuclear reactor in southern town of Dimona, a media report said.
“Hamas claimed responsibility for rocket fire on Dimona, saying their target was the city’s nuclear reactor,” Ynetnews reported yesterday.
According to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), more than 225 rockets were fired at Israel since Operation Protective Edge began late Monday night.
Some 40 of those rockets were intercepted by Israel’s advanced Iron Dome missile interception system.
At least two rockets fell in open areas north of Zikhron Ya’akov, just 37 km south of Haifa, in what was the longest reaching rocket attack since the start of the Israeli offensive in Gaza.
Hamas’ military wing took responsibility for the rocket fire which covered more than 100 kilometres saying they were R-160 rockets and they demonstrated the organisation’s ability to hit any place in Israel.
Israel has two nuclear reactors, one at Dimona in the Negev desert, and the other at its nuclear research facility at Nahal Sorek, west of Jerusalem. (PTI)
