JAMMU, Nov 20: Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association (JKHA) discussed their burning demands in a meeting held here today under the presidentship of Abdul Rashid Bhat.
While addressing the meeting, Abdul Rashid Bhat expressed regret over the way the previous rulers ignored the handicapped. He said that present Governor Administration too is ignoring them by not giving the Association representatives time to meet despite the fact that JKHA has already shot off five letters to the Governor office.
Bhat warn the Governor administration of a strong protest and a massive rally by the Association from Press Colony on December 3 if its demands like passing of Disabled Act 2016, special place of women and children with disabilities in the Act, framing special policy for persons with disabilities on protection from abuse, violence and exploitation and taking specific measures to promote and facilitate inclusive education with special emphasis on Government run schools, if their demands are not resolved till December 2.
The association also demanded that a policy be framed for institutional care and rehabilitation plan for persons with disabilities at community level and comprehensive schemes on the patterns of implementation of J&k JJ Act 2013 supported by the scheme ICPS be formulated.
Other demands of the Association include medical insurance and special employment drive for PWDS, rationalization of social security schemes as per the percentage, grant in aid for civil society organizations, vertical reservation instead of horizontal reservation and extending all those benefits which are given to SC/ST/OBC category to disable persons who are serving the Government.
