Handicrafts and Carpet Sector Skill Development Council to be launched tomorrow

NEW DELHI, Mar 17:  The government will constitute a new institution, ‘Handicrafts and Carpet Sector Skill Council’  here tomorrow to promote skill development among artisans,  craft persons and workers of handicrafts and carpet products.    The institution which will be launched by Minister of  State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv  Pratap Rudy, coincides with the distribution of the 20th Handicrafts Export Awards and will enable the artisans to  adopt the latest techniques and become more productive.    The Council will be responsible for developing occupational standards, setting up labour market infrastructure, introducing certification and assessment mechanism and providing guidance to the artisans, crafts persons and workers in all aspects of skill development.
The Council is being formed in line with the emphasis  given to skill development by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.    Mr Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State for Textiles  will preside over the function and distribute the Export  awards.
