JAMMU, Feb 5: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member, Raman Suri today urged Lieutenant Governor, G C Murmu to handover the site of Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur to Tourism Department for developing it on the pattern of Surajkund to attract tourists in Jammu. He said that after abolition of toll, the site is virtually abandoned and is serving no genuine purpose.
Raman Suri said that this site has huge potential to be developed especially as it is located on the bank of river Ravi. Tourist Huts, Restaurants, Recreational areas, Handicraft Bazar, Local food stalls, Shopping arcades, way side areas, modern sport centres besides libraries and other attractions can develop the area into biggest tourist attraction.
The BJP leader said that this can also serve as a transit place for visiting the Lake created after construction of Thein Dam. Areas of Basohli, Bani and Billawar too will get a fillip with development of this site at Lakhanpur. Once developed, this can be accessed by people and tourists from Jammu, Udhampur, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, thereby enabling the UT of J&K to earn revenue besides providing a remarkable space.
