AKHNOOR, Apr 11: Highly callous and insensitive attitude of the Power Development Department (PDD) authorities at Akhnoor can be gauged from the fact that the naked wires hanging from an open electric transformer, just along the road near the main gate of new Sub District Hospital complex at Akhnoor town has turned a ‘virtual death trap’ for the general public.
Members of the Market Association and SDH staff told the “Excelsior” that they brought the matter to the notice of field staff of the department several times but they remained unconcerned over this sensitive issue, posing great threat to the lives of citizens, specially children and those visiting hospital.
They said many times due to sudden sparking in the open cables and transformer, a scare is caused in the area being on the road side. Some times people leave parked vehicles near this transformer and it may cause major incident of burning due to frequent sparking. This transformer is located at most disadvantageous position and it is open threat to the lives of the people.
Tghey demanded that PDD authorities at Akhnoor should either shift this transformer to some other location or cover it properly with grills/ wired fencing for the safety of people visiting hospital and general public moving along the road.
