NEW DELHI, May 21: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura today called on Union Minister for Textiles, Santosh Kumar Gangwar and discussed promotion and development of Sericulture and Silk industry in J&K.
Hanjura discussed in detail the continuation of central funding scheme on 90:10 basis for sericulture sector in J&K. He urged the Union Minister to continue the special funding for J&K, as it is a traditional sericulture state.
The Union Minister assured Hanjura that all subsectors of sericulture like silkworm seed production, mulberry plantation, cocoon production and silk reeling and weaving will get funding through Central Silk Board.
The Union Minister also assured technical and financial support to J&K to develop its silk industry on modern lines. Some new and innovative schemes in seed and post cocoon sectors to boost cocoon production were discussed in the meeting.
A high tech digital cold storage plant proposed to be installed at Srinagar to hibernate silkworm seed was also discussed.
The Minister was accompanied with Director Sericulture JandK Dr Malik Farooq.
