JAMMU, Nov 17: Making a strong pitch for sensitizing the farmers about the latest techniques and adoption of better agricultural practices Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura said that aim should be to increase production on sustainable basis with reduction in cost of cultivation.
The Minister was addressing a function after inaugurating All India Farmers’ Empowerment Campaign organized by the Rural Development Wing of Raj Yoga Education and Research Foundation (RDRYERF) and Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidhyalaya, Mount Abu held at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Spiritual Growth Centre Auditorium Katra, today.
The Minister appreciated the efforts of the Organizers for organizing the programme and asked them to involve more and more farmers in the campaign and motivate them to adopt improved agricultural practices and take up organic farming. He said use of organic manures and promotion of organic farming is the need of the time which can help in maintaining environmental balance.
The Minister said agriculture is the backbone of economy and the Government has launched various schemes for the welfare of the farmers. He emphasized on making the farmers aware about these schemes so that they can avail their benefits, adding that Government has started organizing Kissan Melas cum Awareness Camps and Exhibitions at district and block levels in the State.
Mr. Hanjura also said that there is still a greater potential for production of many other organic crops in Reasi district which can find a promising market at Katra etc.
Dignitaries of Brahma Kumaris Organization including B. K. Rajinder Bhai, Rajyogini B K Sudarshan Didi, Rajyogini B. K. Sarla Didi, B. K. Kiran, B. K. Ravinder and B. K. Rumal also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the activities of the Orgainization and about the Perpetual Yogic Agriculture (Shashwat Yogic Kheti).
Among others, Director Agriculture Jammu, Dr. S. S. Jamwal, OSD Dr. G. N. Bhat, senior officers of Agriculture Department, Executive Members of Brahma Kumaris Organization and good number of farmers were present on the occasion.
