JAMMU, Nov 14: Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura and Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Ch. Sukhnandan Kumar today visited Farmer’s Field Pandorian and Vegetable Karloop Morh Growing Area and took stock of various activities being carried out by the Agriculture Department in vegetable production and development of vermin compost units.
Earlier, the Ministers inspected Channu Chak and Gajansoo Marh Procurement Centres meant for procurement of paddy.
Director Agriculture Jammu and other senior officers of Agriculture, PHE, Irrigation and Command Area Development departments accompanied the Ministers during their tour.
Mr. Hanjura directed the agriculture authorities to monitor day to day procurement process. He also called for addressing all the bottlenecks on priority for the smooth process of procurement in the interest of farmers.
Interacting with the farmers, Minister for Agriculture said that the Government is committed to upgrade the living standard of the farming community and in this regard several initiatives have been taken by the Government. He said several welfare schemes have been launched in the State including National Vegetable Initiative for Urban Cluster (NVIUC) under RKVY with the aim to improve the socio-economic conditions of the farming community.
Ch. Sukhnandan while interacting with the farmers at different places said that the Coalition Government is fully aware about the problems of the farming community and several initiatives have been taken for their welfare. He said Government’s main focus is to provide best and latest techniques and knowhow to the farmers so that they can increase the production. He also laid stress for promoting organic farming.
Several deputations also met the Ministers during their visit and apprised about the problems which included establishment of Mandi in Pandoiran area, construction of irrigation channels and protection bunds. They gave them patient hearing and assured to address all genuine demands soon.
