JAMMU, Apr 27: Stressing on enhancing employability of the youth through skill development and enabling them to grab the employment avenues in the national and international market, the Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj and Law & Justice Abdul Haq Khan asked the officers to generate mass awareness among the stakeholders about the Himayat Scheme aimed at empowering youth.
The Minister said this during a meeting convened to review the progress of Himayat programme in the state.
He said that the State Rural Livelihood Mission scheme focuses on creating opportunities and imparting skill especially to youth, women and disadvantaged groups, and developing high quality skilled work force/ entrepreneur suitable for current and emerging employment market needs .
Emphasizing on the sectors having high employment potential, Haq said that there is a need for concerted action in several key areas to ensure that skill formation takes place in a demand driven manner and sectoral approach is adopted to achieve the goals.
He said that under Himayat scheme a target has been fixed to train 25,000 youth during the current year so that they can be placed in good organizations within and outside the State.
The minister was appraised that till date 63244 candidates were trained under the scheme of which 47058 have been suitably placed.
Among others, Secretary RDD & PR Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Deputy Secretary, MoRD, GOI, Anil Subramanium, Managing Director JKSRLM G.N Qabsa, Joint Director Planning, RDD, senior officers of JKSRLM, representatives of Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) were present on the occasion.
