SRINAGAR, July 9: Residents of Haran area in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district today voiced concerns over the recent macadamization of the Haran-Srinagar road, alleging the use of substandard materials and calling for an investigation.
The residents said that the Haran-Srinagar road is a critical route for the area and the current condition has heightened worries about safety and durability. They urged the authorities to take swift action to ensure the road meets the required standards and to prevent any potential accidents or further deterioration.
“Looking at the macadamization of the road, I do not think it will last a day or two. We request that the concerned authorities investigate it. They have laid just a one-inch layer of macadam. You will see only sand on this road, and it breaks with a slight push of the foot. This has put people, particularly children who cycle on the road, at risk of accidents. Our last road was much better than this,” Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat, a local resident, said.
Another resident said, “This road has turned into a hazard. We were expecting a proper and durable road, but what we have now is dangerous and unacceptable.”
He demanded a thorough investigation into the quality of the work and materials used.
In response to these allegations, an official from the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) clarified the situation. “It is not a macadamization but a 25-mm renewal coat,” he said.
