UDHAMPUR, Dec 20: The Sericulture Department Udhampur organized Kissan Mela under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme Catalytic Development Programme at Panchayat Ghar Dehari of tehsil Ramnagar here today. More than 300 Sericulture farmers from Ramnagar , Majalta and Dudu Block participated in the mela.
MLA, Ramnagar, Harshdev Singh was the chief guest on the occasion & formally inaugurated the mela.
Director J&K Sericulture, Tanveer Singh, Addition Director Sericulture Jammu, M.L. Chargal, Deputy Director Sericulture Udhampur, Ashwani Sharma, Scientist from CSV, Ladan Udahmpur, sectrol and tehsil level officers of the allied department were present in the mela.
Mr. Harsh appreciated the efforts of the department for generating awareness among the people by holding such Kissan Melas. He said that the convergence of the all the stake holders under one umbrella would act as platform to workout the future course of action for increasing the production and protection levels of farming community.
He called upon the farmers to avail maximum benefits of different schemes of various departments depicting in the mela which would mainly designed for uplifting their socio economic status.
The MLA inaugurated the mulberry plantation week being celebrated in the district by planning a mulberry sapling.
Later, the MLA inspected different stalls laid out by the sericulture and allied departments. He distributed 139 cheques amounting to Rs. 6.30 lacks among the beneficiaries under the scheme assistance for the construction of rearing house/ mulberry plantation. He also distributed health cards among the women rears under the women health schemes.
Director J&K Sericulture Development Department, Tanveer Singh explained in detailed the different centrally sponsored schemes being implemented by the department.
