JAMMU, Jan 5: Seeking a separate Assembly constituency for Bhomag belt, Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman JKNPP and former Minister submitted a memorandum to Chairperson of Delimitation Commission in New Delhi today.
The deputation led by Harsh Dev Singh further demanded equal seats for Jammu & Kashmir regions and allocation of at least five Assembly constituencies for district Udhampur in view of its huge area, population, tough terrain, under development and lack of communication facilities.
“Pancheri, Lander, Mongri, Bhomag areas of district Udhampur are amongst the most backward areas of J&K UT with hardly any signs of development as required in present day context. The aforesaid belt falls in the remotest corner of district Udhampur with extremely tough terrain, poor connectivity, lack of communication links and other civic amenities needed for the human survival. The said belt though forms a compact and contiguous geographical area but is divided in three Assembly constituencies due to the power politics played by successive regimes including the present dispensation. With three different representatives/ MLAs to represent the said area, none takes interest resulting in its complete neglect and deprivation to the utter disappointment of the public inhabiting the incarcerated belt. The result is that it continues to suffer,” reads the memorandum, adding that the issue is of paramount significance and non creation of separate Assembly would not only amount to gravest injustice but render the entire delimitation exercise redundant.
Harsh Dev Singh also demanded that the Ghordi block of district Udhampur which remained reserved for 27 years since 1995 in view of it being a part of Chenani Ghordi constituency, needed to be included in some open constituency in view of massive public uproar.
“It is further requested that district Udhampur having a geographical area of 2380 Sq kms and a population of 5,57,689 (2011 census) needs to be provided at least five Assembly constituencies so as to fulfill the hopes of various aspirational groups and remote areas,” he added.
