JAMMU, Mar 18: Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) celebrated the academic achievement of its students through its 20th Annual Scholarship Distribution Function and Preeti Bhoj.
HBET was established in 1997, with the objective of supporting children, specially the girl child from the economically weak and disadvantaged section of Jammu Province. Over last twenty years 4,739 scholarships have been awarded with financial outlay of Rs 1 crore 20 lakhs.
The chief guest, Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, Legislative Assembly, distributed scholarships to students and offered them words of encouragement and emphasized the need to make the best use of the opportunity provided by HBET.
Eighty percent of the students are girls from rural areas and financially weak families. They travelled from distant villages of Arnia, Akalpur, Birpur, Chadwal, Doomi, Dansal, Jourian, Kanachak, Korejagir, Kandyal, Sunderbani, Hiranagar, Surinsar, etc to participate in the function along with their families.
Reporting on the activities of the Trust, the Managing Trustee, Kunil Bhalla, informed that many HBET students are now contributing to society as successful professionals- Engineers, Teachers, Scholars, Architects, Nurses. He also announced that students desirous of pursuing Nursing can apply for scholarship to the Trust.
Educational support to children is further supplemented by HBET team through its grass root activities like Mentorship Program, Summer Camps, Rewards Program, Medical Assistance to the students and their families.
The function of vibrant and colourful performances of dances, songs, poems by the children was followed by a Preeti Bhoj. The Traditional Dogri meal was thoroughly enjoyed by more than 2500 people including children, their families and their teachers.
