JAMMU, Sept 4: Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) launched an eight-day long scholarship distribution camp for 560 poor children.
The camp was launched on September 1. During the camp, students of class 1st to 10th participated in the mandatory assessment tests. Besides, selection test for new students from classes 1st to 3rd were also conducted for next year.
On the fourth day, today, the chief guests were SK Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Jammu and Dr Ruveda Salam, Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, Jammu. They distributed scholarships to students and offered them words of encouragement and emphasized the need to make the best use of the opportunity provided by Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust.
Speaking on the occasion the Managing Trustee said that the scholarships will be distributed to 560 students over the next 8 days. He said that 60 – 65 students are being (along with their parents) to collect the scholarship every day.
HBET has been awarding scholarships since 1997. It started this initiative by supporting 12 children and this year the Trust has reached out to 560 children. The Trust aims to cover as many rural children as possible around Jammu. 80% of the beneficiaries of scholarship scheme of HBET are girls and other students from rural areas such as Hira Nagar, Chak, Rattian, Doomi, Gajansoo, RS Pura, Birpur, Rehian, Jourian, Dansal, Kangrail, Arnia Gurah Slathia, Ghou Manhasan, Saruinsar, etc.
