SRINAGAR, Oct 23: High Court today directed the Government that no construction should be allowed within 100 meters of the river Sind banks.Hearing a public interest litigation on removal of encroachments on the river bank, a Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice M H Attar directed the Ganderbal Deputy Commissioner and the Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control that they were fully entitled to demolish any construction that is raised on the bank without issuing any show cause notices.
During the proceedings, CE I&FC pointed out the issue of demarcation of Sind River with the Revenue authorities saying that demarcation the river bank would take some time and further action would be taken as soon as the demarcation of nallah Sind was finished.
The bench directed the Deputy Commissioner to furnish the verification of Revenue record expeditiously, preferably within two weeks from today.
