HC Bar Association submits memo to LG, projects demands

JAMMU, May 26: The office bearers of J&K High Court (HC) Bar Association Jammu today met Lt Governor G C Murmu and submitted a memorandum of demands.
President of the Association, Abhinav Sharma apprised the Lt Governor regarding the hardships faced by the advocates because of the complete lock down. The office bearers including Rohit Bhagat (vice president) and Abhishek Wazir (general secretary) brought into the notice of the LG multifarious problems being faced by advocates in general and young advocates in particular.
The LG was told that about the lack of basic facilities in the court premises particularly the district court complex where almost 1000 lawyers are compelled and forced to sit in open and consequently exposed to bare hot temperatures during summer months when the temperature rises up to 47 degree Celsius.
The Bar Association members told the Lt Governor that due to complete lock down there are about 1500 lawyers belonging to various districts of Jammu division who were practicing in the High Court and District Court Jammu, and living in rental accommodations are unable to go back to their home town because of sudden lock down and consequently they are facing acute financial crisis.
Submitting a memorandum to the LG, the Association demanded release of additional financial assistance to the needy lawyers, providing facilities to lawyers of Jammu division at par with those practicing in National Capital and UT of Chandigarh, grant of stipend to the young lawyers having practice of less than 5 years, opening of registration office in the Special Tribunal Jammu at the earliest, providing sufficient number of permanent benches of CAT at suitable place convenient to lawyers and grant of funds for construction of Bar Office and completion of two Halls.
The Lt Governor gave patient hearing to the office bearers of the Bar Association and assured every possible help.
