Srinagar, Apr 29: The High Court today closed the issue with regard to status of prisoners of J&K and Ladakh UTs who are lodged in other parts of India after observing that the jail authorities are conscious of the responsibility regarding the health and safety of these prisoners.
The issue has been closed by the Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Gita Mittal after receiving a report from DG Prisons about the prisoners of J&K. He informed the court that all detenues of J&K lodged in Haryana are being screened by medical team twice a day and the health status of all these detenues is monitored daily and are found normal.
Other report from Prisons Department, Uttar Pradesh also revealed that jail authorities are taking all steps and ensuring the health and safety of prisoners from J&K. “In view of the above, it would appear that the jail authorities are conscious of the responsibility regarding the health and safety of the residents of J&K and Ladakh who are lodged in prisons in other parts of India”, the DB said.
Court, however, directed the DG prisons to continue to monitor their wellbeing and ensure that the health and safety are not compromised in any manner. In view of stand taken by the jail authorities, Court said these issues do not need to detain this court any further and closed its consideration on this issue. “In case any difficulty is faced, it shall be open to the DG Prisons to approach this court for appropriate directions”, court directed.
